This page explains how lessons are structured at Canal Vertex Guitar Studio—what each format covers, who it fits, and what you leave with. Sessions are available in Zwolle and online across the Netherlands.
What a lesson includes
A good lesson is more than “tips.” Each session is built around a short feedback loop: identify the bottleneck, pick one high-leverage drill, then connect it to real music. The studio keeps the language concrete: a clean rep is defined, a tempo target is chosen, and the technique cue is written down so you can reproduce it on a normal week—whether you practice in Zwolle or elsewhere in the Netherlands.
We work with electric and acoustic players. Electric sessions often focus on right-hand motion, palm muting control, and timing alignment against a click. Acoustic sessions commonly revolve around even dynamics across strings, thumb independence, and chord-change efficiency. For both, tone is treated as a skill: noise control, attack, vibrato shape, and volume consistency get coached the same way technique does.
You leave with a plan you can actually execute: what to practice, how long each block should take, and how to self-check. That avoids the usual trap of collecting exercises without building stable playing.
Weekly plan + checkpoints
Your plan is intentionally small: one main technique module, one supporting drill, and one musical application piece. We pick tempo ladders and define what “clean” means (timing, noise, articulation). That makes progress visible from week to week.

Timing and subdivision

Pick attack, muting, vibrato shape, and dynamics. The goal is repeatable sound, not lucky takes.
Repertoire + musical application
Exercises are tied to riffs, progressions, or a song section you actually care about. That is where timing, muting, and phrasing become “real playing” instead of isolated drills.
Acoustic clarity
Clean chord transitions, even strumming, and fingerstyle control with consistent volume across strings.
Electric control
Palm muting, noise control, and efficient picking paths so rhythm parts sit correctly at rehearsal volume.
Lesson formats
Choose a starting point based on what you want to improve right now. If you are not sure, the assessment lesson is the cleanest entry because it sets a baseline and produces a plan immediately. All formats are available in Zwolle. Several formats also work well online across the Netherlands, provided your camera angle shows both hands clearly.
Assessment lesson (recommended)
We listen to a short sample of your current playing, identify the bottleneck, and pick a practical near-term target. The output is a written plan: one main module, tempo checkpoints, and a musical application task.
- Best for: new students, resets, or after a long break.
- You leave with: a week plan that can start the same day.
Technique module lesson
A focused session on one mechanical problem: alternate picking consistency, legato clarity, chord change efficiency, or string crossing. We define a clean rep and pick a tempo ladder that fits your control today.
- Best for: players who want measurable improvement in one pattern.
- Common output: a 20–35 minute practice block you can repeat.
Rhythm and timing lesson
Work on subdivisions, syncopation, palm-muted patterns, and strumming consistency. We adjust right-hand motion and use strict click tests so rhythm parts lock with drums and bass.
- Best for: rehearsal readiness and recording confidence.
- Works well: in-person and online across the Netherlands.
Repertoire coaching lesson
Bring a riff, chorus, or full piece. We break it into small parts, pick the hardest bar, and build a practice plan that eliminates the “almost right” zone. Perfect for preparing a set, a recording, or a band audition.
- Best for: learning songs faster with fewer sloppy transitions.
- Useful deliverable: a bar-by-bar practice roadmap.
Fretboard mapping and harmony
We make the neck predictable using triads, chord tones, and position links (often through CAGED shapes). The emphasis is practical: finding notes quickly, choosing target tones, and building short phrases that land correctly.
- Best for: improvisation, chord melodies, and faster learning.
- Often paired with: a repertoire piece to apply the mapping immediately.
Tone and articulation session
A session devoted to sound: noise management, pick angle, muting layers, and dynamic control. This is especially useful if a part is “technically correct” but still does not sound finished.
- Best for: recording prep and consistent live sound.
- Bring: your guitar and a short sample of your typical tone.

The studio is built around planned lesson blocks rather than walk-in availability. To keep it simple and ad-safe, scheduling is handled through the on-site form. Once we receive your request, we confirm options by email—typically within 1 business day. If you are outside Zwolle, tell us whether you prefer online sessions within the Netherlands.
